The Language and Dialogue Technologies (LanD) research group at FBK works on Natural Language Processing applied to dialogue in several areas of human activity. The current focus is AI for social good, in particular the development of AI technologies to support counter narrative generation to fight online hate speech and fake news.

Head: Marco Guerini

Natural Language Processing

The Natural Language Processing (NLP) research group at FBK develops computational models of human languages, focusing on written texts.
Main areas: information extraction, conversational agents, and pragmatics.

Head: Bernardo Magnini

Process and Data Intelligence

The Process & Data Intelligence (PDI) research group at FBK investigates methods, techniques, and tools aimed at supporting the intelligent discovery, formalization, retrieval, and usage of knowledge, with particular emphasis on process oriented and semantic oriented knowledge.

Head: Massimiliano Ronzani

Data and Knowledge Management

The Data and Knowledge Management (DKM) research group aims to foster research and technology for developing methodologies and tools to support the elicitation of knowledge from data and experts, its encoding in computer interpretable formats, the integration of heterogeneous knowledge bases, and the development of intelligent inference and decision support algorithms.

Head: Luciano Serafini

SpeechTek
Lab

The SpeechTek Lab investigates AI-based solutions for speech technologies, addressing a variety of speech related tasks: automatic speech recognition (ASR), speech enhancement and separation, spoken language understanding, speaker identification, automatic language learning and other speech and audio applications. The group is particularly interested in the application of AI topical research directions to the speech context, such as: continual learning, large-scale models, self-supervised adaptation, edge processing.

Head: Alessio Brutti

Deep Visual
Learning

The Deep Visual Learning (DVL) research group specializes in deep learning and computer vision. The research is centered on creating innovative methodologies for developing models that automatically analyze images and videos. Recent activity focuses on advancing deep models, especially foundation models, such that they can successfully adapt to and continually learn from real-world visual data.

Head: Elisa Ricci

MOBILE AND SOCIAL COMPUTING LAB

Mobile and Social Computing Lab (MobS) research grups builds predictive and computational approaches to human behavior understanding using the newly ubiquitous sources of data that are becoming available about all aspects of human life (e.g. mobile phone data, credit card transactions, energy consumption data, social media data from Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, etc.).

Head: Bruno Lepri

INTELLIGENCE INTERFACES AND INTERACTIONS

Intelligence Interfaces and Interactions (i3) research gropu is specialized in Human-Computer Interaction.
Our research objectives are at the same time technological – that is, developing innovative technologies – and social – that is, investigating how people use and benefit from these technologies.

Head: Massimo Zancanaro

NEUROINFORMATICS LABORATORY
